hi, this is my long overdue introduction.
i’ve been visiting this site since probably around 2011. in that time, i’ve taken a lot from these discussions and never contributed anything.
i’m not sure that i have much to contribute these days because i just don’t pay too much attention to wt land.

StanLiveDeath opined, "Nat--you are way out of touch with funeral costs in the UK."
You don't have no-frills cremations? Does the UK build a Taj Mahal for everyone in Potter's Field?
Now we know how many silly geese there are in the UK - 189 at last count. Watch that number climb, because everyone is SO SAD!
Next week they'll need cash for a BBQ - send money NOW!!!

Wow, I guess with age comes wisdom. I wasn't this wise last week!
No ONE is saying this isn't real, or sad, but how is this a COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITY, especially when NO extenuating circumstances have been cited.
My final plans are for a no-frills cremation with no service. Cost is about one-tenth of what this money grab seeks. EXPLAIN.
i'm one of earliest adopters of the internet in discovering the real history of the watchtower.
back then it was the wild wild west with newsgroups being the primary sources of information.
then came watchtower observer, freeminds, and all the other sites that followed jwd was one of the later sites.
VICTOR said, "Back then the only published books were Confessions of a Watchtower Slave, Ray Franz' books, and Visions of Glory."
As someone who was around "back then," I want to clarify the chronology of those 3 pioneering books:
"Thirty Years a Watchtower Slave : The Confessions of a Converted Jehovah's Witness" by William Jacob Schnell, appeared in 1953 and was not widely known, as far as I know - it was "before my time." I have not read it because: a) I don't need it b) I have heard that it wasn't that good; revealed no secret history, etc., mostly a list of personal complaints.
"Visions of Glory: A History and a Memory of Jehovah's Witnesses" by Barbara Grizutti Harrison appeared in 1978. THIS was "my book." I had the great joy of speaking with BGH before her death. This book really helped crack my cosmic egg.
"Crisis of Conscience : The Struggle between Loyalty to God and Loyalty to One's Religion" by Raymond Franz, (c.1983) I understand that to many people this is "THE" book. I left BEFORE Ray Franz did. If he met me in 1980, he would have DISFELLOWSHIPPED me, so I don't feel I owe him anything. I have read portions of his book. His second book, "In Search of Christian Freedom" materialized in 1992.
I post this to make it clear that these books were NOT contemporaneous. They served vastly different audiences.
I could not find any book with the exact title "Confessions of a Watchtower Slave".

I fail to see why anyone here should contribute to this £5,000 money grab.
The death of a child - even a young adult - is a tragedy. Was she employed? Did she have life insurance? Did she have any savings? Is her family insolvent, living under a bridge somewhere?
HOW does this become a community obligation?
NO reasons have been given for why donations are required, just "we would like you to give us £5,000, please."
I await the flaming... unleash hell!
not sure it's ok to post here about that.
im sorry if i'm wrong but i'm just trying to find my way and meet people that could help me become a good witness.
i recently discovered my faith as a witness.
PURELOVE20, this is a predominately APOSTATE website. You are welcome here if you have doubts, but if you are a "true believer" and are here because you think we're a virtual Kingdom Hall, you need to improve your reading comprehension.
i was recently given a gift of ancestry.com and i’m curious if anyone else has used this service?.
NewYork44M asked, "Those that did the test, how has this changed your life?
I have done 23andMe. I'm the kind who want to know if I have "genetic risks," so I followed that wherever it led. Nothing I didn't already know, no horrifying surprises. I got weary of the seemingly unending stream of questionaires, so I eventually withdrew. I also received messages from "4th cousins" that I was suspicious of. These experiences tend to temper interest.
So, bottom line, no change at all.

If your family is a traveling circus of DNA - mine is ancient royalty* - then one of the DNA services might be really helpful in laying to rest some old family lies.
...just sayin'.

Yes, Min, I have used Ancestry for personal research into my tribe of Neanderthal troglodytes AND for research into the lives of various Watch Tower clowns. I'm 132% Neanderthal, y'know!
I like Ancestry, but it hasn't always given me answers as easily as the folks featured on the US TV show "Who Do You Think You Are?" get their answers. It also is not an -ahem!- inexpensive service.
